It’s time to start making some noise about our new thing: ‘Lassoo’.  It is a solution that enables tourism businesses to engage their customers while they are travelling, to enhance their experience, and capture revenue from their in-trip spend. 

Lassoo is an end-to-end solution. A white-label app – so it carries the partner businesses’ own branding – with a travel product data base (which can link to other travel content data bases) and, a fully integrated accounting system. It allows travellers to be served options relevant to their booked travel. The options are sent directly to their mobile devices, and bookings, payments and vouchering are all executed effortlessly and seamlessly. 

Lassoo is the culmination of my life-long vision for tourism – starting with Kiwi and Oz Experience nearly 30 years ago. I have been driven by the belief that you can’t create the perfect itinerary for any two people. People want choice. For many businesses, the issue has been that the costs involved in giving customers choice is greater than the benefit they receive for doing so. Lassoo makes choice easy – and it actually reduces business overheads.

Developments in technology, and the fact that people travel with data-enabled devices, have made it possible for us to offer something that was never possible before. Bus and rail pass suppliers can offer build your own perfect holiday, tour operators can offer in-trip upgrades and add-ons rather than have a one-size-fits-all offering and, campervan operators can offer everything from activities to campsites. All of this happens in a trusted, personalised environment that facilitates both pre- and in-travel planning and booking. Businesses can send their clients unique, targeted offers, updates and alerts to ensure that travellers don’t miss a thing. 

While I have been working on this idea for a number of years, I am excited how far we have come in the last few months. The solution is live and has handled over 120,000 transactions already - with no down time. It has significantly grown the ‘in-trip’ sales of those who are using it.

No I haven’t suddenly become a tech guy – I am definitely the tourism guy who is helping shape and deliver a tech solution. My partners include Campbell Shephard ex CEO and driver of Base Backpackers and Sandfield who are one of New Zealand’s top software houses.
